HMRC Communication

Dear Colleague

We have been notified that with effect from 27th October HM Revenue and Customs have started to issue Annual Tax Summaries for the financial year 2013/14 to approximately 24 million UK tax payers at their home addresses, with the last ones being issued before Christmas. A copy of the summary is attached for information. The Annual Tax Summaries will be issued in addition to P60s and will not be a substitute for them.

However, HM Revenue and Customs have also written regarding incorrect P800 Tax Calculations which have been issued to some staff. They have provided the following statement:

Background

HM Revenue and Customs  are aware that a number of employees recently received an incorrect form 2013-14 P800 Tax Calculation which was issued from mid-September onwards during their 2013-14 End of Year reconciliation.

The 2013-14, P800 shows an incorrect overpayment or underpayment where the pay and tax shown on the P800 is not correct and does not match that shown on the member of staffs  2013-14, P60.

 Next Steps

HM Revenue and Customs are very sorry that some customers will receive an incorrect 2013-14 P800 tax calculation.

They are urgently investigating these cases and will look to resolve the matter and issue a revised P800 to the employee in the next 6-8 weeks.

 If you think your P800 is incorrect, HM Revenue and Customs have advised:

·         Not to repay any underpayment shown on the P800

·         Not to cash any payable order they may have received

·         Employees will not be affected by the incorrect tax code as we will issue a revised P800 before Annual Coding.

Should you wish to contact HM Revenue and Customs to discuss a P800 tax calculation you have received, please contact the HM Revenue and Customs  employees telephone helpline, which is 0300 200 3300.

This helpline is open 8am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm Saturday but closed Sundays and bank holidays.

HM Revenue and Customs website confirms the best time to call is before 10am Monday to Friday and they ask all callers to  have their National Insurance number when they call which can be found on your P800 letter or on the right hand side of your payslip .

We  currently do not know the scale of the issue, but many employees may be affected.

Please note the Payroll Department will not be able to offer advice with any queries relating to an incorrect P800 Tax Calculation or Annual Tax Summaries.
